October Tarotscopes: (A Bit Too Many) Spooky Vibes

The seasons are changing, school is back in session, and Halloween is right around the corner. It’s by far one of my favorite months of the year: Chilly fall weather, pumpkin-spiced everything, spooky vibes all around, the chance to watch scary movies, and the excuse to eat all the candy. Who’s with me?

A full moon greets us on October 1 (October 2 for other parts of the world), a potent sign that sets the tone for the month ahead. During a full moon, the sky is at its brightest. It shines its light and allows us to see clearly. We may, for the first time in a long time, see certain aspects of our lives that aren’t working, that are stuck, that have been hidden or ignored. The moon’s light allows us the clarity and vision to see these things and release them. It’s a time to shed and let go of what is no longer serving us.

Card for the month of October: Two of Swords

In the Two of Swords card, a person is blindfolded and holding two swords. They sit still, not moving, figuring out what to do next. What this card is telling us is that we may be blindly following routine, orders, tradition… Never questioning. That is, until now.

Two swords rest in our hands, in order to remove the blindfold and see again, we must set one down. We must choose which sword to let go of. The Two of Swords asks us to open our senses, to be fully conscious of each and every moment. We have a decision to make and a path to choose. No one but us can do this. The blindfold is a symbol that we will need to trust our intuition, our hearts, and our souls to guide us forward.

Now that we have this month’s overarching theme out of the way, let’s get down to your individual signs, shall we?

Libra: Knight of Cups, reversed

The Knight of Cups symbolizes harmony with one’s emotions. However, because it’s in the reversed position for you, Librans, it means that you’re feeling a bit out of balance this month. Your emotions feel more like a churning ocean than a calm and quiet sea. Take time to recalibrate and recenter. What brings balance in your life? Do more of that. It will do you good.

Scorpio: Nine of Swords & Eight of Wands

Do you wake up in the middle of the night frightened of what’s to come? With the Nine of Swords, it may feel like the world is against you. But don’t shy away from these intense feelings. You’ll need them when it’s time to get back on your feet again. That’s what the Eight of Wands is showing. This not-so-pleasant experience you’re going through? You’re going to alchemize it and spin it into something wondrous—a lotus in the mud, so to speak. So, feel all the feels this month. You’re doing the work even though it may not feel like it.

Sagittarius: Six of Swords

This month, you’ll be leaving something behind that is not serving you. You’re entering new territory—one that is more aligned with your soul and life’s purpose. But the best part? It’s one that you are actively choosing. You have the wherewithal to take action and change unsavory circumstances and let. That. Shit. Go. To venture into uncharted territory is exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time, but you’ve got this. You’ve already taken the hardest step.

Capricorn: Three of Swords

It’s a heavy time, I know. This month might feel like a neverending doozy. The Three of Swords symbolizes heartbreak, pure and simple. You’ve opened your heart and now it’s gotten hurt. Learn from this. Take the pain and embrace it. Yep, give it one big bear hug. This life we’re in is intense, and it’s f-ing painful sometimes, but you can’t have pain without also having immense joy and love. So Capricorns, my dears, give that pain in your heart the fiercest hug—a hug so tight it feels like it might burst.

Aquarius: Six of Pentacles & The Hanged One

The Six of Pentacles is about giving, not receiving. This could mean giving your time, your love, your resources, your energy. With The Hanged One, it’s about letting go of what we THINK we need or deserve. Let go of expectations—don’t think, just act from the heart.

Pisces: Five of Cups

Another doozy of a card! In the Five of Cups, there are five cups, three are overturned. But there are two cups that are still upright. The message here is to look around you. What blessings in your life are you glossing over or aren’t paying attention to? What beauty is standing right in front of you that you may be missing? Even during moments of hopelessness and despair, there’s always space for goodness and light. Look out for those little pockets of light.

Aries: The High Priestess

Let your intuition lead the way this month. We all have a guide within us who can lead us forward in our journey. This is your month to chat with your inner guide. Speak with your inner guide, write to them, pray to them, converse with them. Over the next few weeks, get quiet more often than not. Put the phone down, leave the headphones at home. Step deep into this spiritual plane… it’s the month of magic and witchy vibes after all!

Taurus: Queen of Pentacles

Your steadfast work ethic is starting to pay off. You’re feeling more and more confident in your abilities and may experience more comfort in everyday life. Your earthly needs are being met and you don’t have to worry about every dime and penny spent. Enjoy this time of ease. You’ve earned it.

Gemini: Five of Cups

Oh, dear souls. It’s going to be okay. It might not look like it or feel like it, but give it time. There are more things to be grateful for than meets the eye. Seek to find balance this month—how much time and energy are spent focusing on the negative? Is there a way to sneak in some gratitude? This may help you find some equilibrium that you’ve been sorely missing.

Cancer: The Empress

What a beautiful message during such a chaotic time. The Empress is guiding you to carve out moments when you can fuel your passion and CREATE. Bake a cake, make a macrame wall hanging, write a poem, sing, make a badass Halloween costume from scratch! You get the idea… do whatever your inner creator is craving this month.

Leo: The Emperor

Strong and steady. That’s what this month is calling you to embody. You may be thinking, How can I be strong and steady when the world around me feels so UNsteady? It’s all about perspective. What do you have control over? Is it your daily routine? Is it your weekly call with a friend? That cup of coffee you make each morning before work? Take stock of what you can control and sink into it. As if you’re putting down roots right then and there. You ARE strong. You ARE powerful. You ARE steady. You just have to believe you are.

Virgo: Knight of Wands

The King of Pentacles is grounded and sturdy. I know times don’t feel very sturdy, but for you, this month will be full of unexpected surprises. You might be feeling more grounded in your work, your purpose. You might have an epiphany on a big decision or what your next big project will be. Allow this sturdiness to spread to those around you—we could all use some of your steadiness right now!
