Loka Yoga Whistler
Located just South of the Village, in one of Whistler’s most stunning hotels, you’ll find Loka Yoga. Their primary styles are Jivamukti and Ashtanga Yoga; but they also offer a selection of Yin, Restorative, financially accessible and therapeutic classes. There is a complete yoga wall set up as well. This space is invaluable and open to all.
You’ll notice right away that to Tina Pachumati James and her team, yoga is about much more than a system of exercises. Jivamukti Yoga integrates the deeper spiritual aspects of yoga with a strong physical practice. The word means ‘liberation of the soul’, or ‘liberation while living’. The teachers at this studio are passionate about carrying on the tradition of yoga and making it accessible and understandable to anyone who is willing to show up and do the work.
“We honour our teachers and our lineage. Having humility of being a messenger is very important to us.”
Classes will likely include breath work, meditation, chanting and discussion about the principles of yoga; to deepen the meaning behind your movement. Your practice is always your own; and all students can come and go as they please; however, you may be invited to consider your impact both on and off the yoga mat.
“Activism is a huge part of our philosophy. We tell our students: go and do yoga in the real world. Stand for your cause, whether it’s environment, First Nations, women, or any project that inspires you.” – Victoria Grace Lopez

Although not strictly a studio, the new location is intimate, inviting and comfortable, with a mountain view. Colleen will arrive ahead of class and creatively transform the fitness room into a yoga sanctuary; with curtains, cleanliness, and surround sound.
The room fits eight mats comfortably; so if you want to guarantee your spot, preregister online for the class you plan to attend. Passionate, high quality instruction and a detailed anatomical focus will keep you aligned and safe. Colleen offers creative, healthy sequences, modifications for all levels, and adaptations for injuries.
